  • Served Imperial County students, parents, and legal guardians in school-to-prison pipeline legal issues, including suspension/expulsion, alternative school transfer, and special education matters.

  • Designated lead lawyer on litigation team for writ of mandate filed in San Francisco Superior Court against the California Department of Education for state Administrative Procedures Act violations with respect to Migrant Education Program parent rights; conducted oral argument for approximately two hours.

  • Handled felony and misdemeanor juvenile delinquency cases for charges related to school.

  • Secured release for detained client on felony PC 245(a)(1) charge based on constitutional rights violations, including failure to make probable cause determination within 48 hours of warrantless juvenile arrest.

  • Conducted investigations of cases in preparation for trial, including witness interviews, and scene visits.

  • Represented youth clients and parents in special education matters; collaborate with delinquency and dependency attorneys to assist with education advocacy for their clients.

  • Represented indigent clients in education, housing, employment, and juvenile delinquency matters.

  • Litigated unlawful detainer cases on behalf of low-income tenants; negotiated favorable settlements in ten cases during the pandemic and dozens of others prior to Landlord filing a lawsuit; engaged in motion practice including demurrers, motions to quash, motions to strike, and more.

  • Represented clients in subsidized housing matters to oppose unlawful rent increases, request reasonable accommodations for disabilities, attend mediation, and negotiate resolution.

  • Communicated with clients in Spanish and meet them in their communities throughout Imperial County.

  • Represented clients in administrative proceedings, including wage claims with the Labor Commissioner.

  • Filed DFEH complaints for employment, housing-based discrimination, and workplace civil rights violations; represent clients during DFEH investigative interviews.
